Yes. I upped sticks and went from UK to Spain with 2 kids, 14 suitcases a bike. (No husband but £750 in excess baggage!) It was a fantastic adventure. I met wonderful people who I will never forget for the rest of my life, my girls are now bi-lingual and even though bad circumstances forced me back to England I have beautiful and happy memories. If I had the money I would do it again but this time I wouldn't be a JW so it would probably be even more fantastic as I wouldn't be limiting myself to one small group of people in my life.

Discovering Mortality
by pirata inmost of my life i never gave thought to my mortality because i'd be petting a lion forever in the new system.
my hobby could wait because i would have time to pursue it as a perfect being in a paradise.
dying was not a huge deal because i'd wake up in a paradise earth.. then i woke up.

Its bit of a shock when you put all your hopes, dreams and aspirations on hold til after Armageddon, only to discover this life is all you have and all you are going to get and your best years have already gone and you wasted them working for free for a publishing organisation.

typical witnesses !!!
by warmasasunned ina friend of mine x jw like myself, works as a window cleaner on a road where a family of active jws live.
he watched a situation develop over a say a year were they started a bible study with a local neighbour and eventually he became a jw himself.. now this fella was a bit of a odd bod, looked odd, dressed odd, generally made people feel a little uncomfortable, but not a bad person lets use an often used phrase in england "an eccentric".. well of course he showed a little bit of interest, pherhaps he was lonely.
well of course he was really fussed over by is local jw neighbours, bible study,.

How many elders, HLC members know CPR?
by just n from bethel inanyone who has ever taken a first aid class knows that cpr training and first aid training are basic life saving requirements for anyone in the professional medical community.
if you were ever discussing any medical choices with someone who wanted to advise you on a medical / health decision, you would want to be comfortable that if something were to happen to you all the sudden, that this person you were seeking advice from could provide basic medical aid, like cpr.
if it's a nurse or a doctor or a paramedic, you would expect that they would know what to do.

Our KH had designated qualified first aiders for every meeting and everyone knew who we were. Most of us were trained through work or at our own expense and without exception all of us were sisters! Qualified and certificated to administer emergency treatment for accidents or illness but not considered capable of passing a microphone!!!

You ever go through extended moments where nothing satisfies you, to the point you wouldn't mind dying?
by miseryloveselders indon't get me wrong, this isn't a call for help or anything like that.
i'm not about to do anything stupid, just feeling a little down and exhausted tonight.
i feel defeated, even though i don't feel as if i'm battling anything.

I can relate to most of what has been said. I can't blame Watchtower for my negativity as I am sure they "captured" me because I was already a depressive. I am not suicidal at the moment but have been in the past. Hospitalised for it too. One of the best weeks of my life, no pressure, no bills, no cooking, no cleaning, no kids hassling me and no meetings and lots of people being nice to me. Not that I would recommend it. I wasn't even allowed a mobile phone or my Bible.
My problem now is, I was not marriageable material as a young witness so I had no choice but to stay single and am consequenly now an old (and fat, depressive) ex witness with absolutely no hope for future happiness with a mate. I am in bit of a paradox situation. I have now lived alone for over 30 years so I don't think I could tolerate sharing my space with a man but I also can't bear the thought of spending what years I have left, which could be as many as another 30 or more as I am 51, completely alone. None of my family speak to me. Some days I convince myself I will be okay but on other low days I think "what is the point of carrying on. I have no reason to continue? " Today I have made 8 posts on JWN so don't feel so alone or useless but it is not enough reason to carry on living. You guys are all terrific by the way. xxx

Watchtower teaching - short summary
by kurtbethel ini happened upon a page the described:.
7 really weird religions you havent heard ofso i made the following comment.. when you look into it, the jehovah's witness religion is a bit odd.
their early teaching was that jesus showed up invisibly in 1874 and was going to come back in 1914 and destroy all the governments and churches.

I too find it amazing how they "persuaded" us old light is never a lie or untrue but I believed it for many years. However, I came across a brilliant analogy describing it earlier today which really helped me and amused me at the same time. I was also a bit cross for not working it out for myself years ago, truth be told.
A chair is in a darkened room, so dark that it may not necessarily be obviously a chair but as light enters the room the shape of the chair becomes obvious. As more light enters the room and the light gets brighter and brighter we can see the colour and more and more detail of the chair. But the chair never turns into a table. It remains a chair no matter how bright the light gets and certainly never flips from chair to table and back to a chair again!
"Millions now living will never die" is now proven to be untrue and "1914, the generation that will never pass away" is the same untruth. They have all passed away. Not old light at all but just a very clever way of keeping us all thoroughly deceived! Now where have I heard that expression before?

Hypocrisy in latest Awake
by dozy inthe april 2011 awake (downloadable on jw.org) contains a watching the world article on the catholic paedophile abuse situation in ireland.. quite apart from the sheer hypocrisy in criticising other religions when the society has enough child abuse problems of their own , they make this statement "the abuse was ignored because of misguided loyalty to the absolute authority of the catholic church.
" this from an organisation that demands complete submission to their absolute authority.. i can't help think of barbara & joe anderson who were disfellowshipped because they refused to submit to the absolute authority of the governing body and spoke out against child abuse..

I know when I was still in the borg I didn't believe any of the JW paedophile stories and possibly it is still the same for those who have never had one in their cong. The best form of defense is attack!!!

Do you dress your pets?
by Snoozy inas a child i had many cats and delighted in putting my doll clothes on them and rocking them in the rocking chair..i would even make a tent on my mom's bed and put them in it like they were in a cave..i had a great imigination... they would tolerate it for a while and then decide the fun was over..picky cats.... so if you have animals do you dress them up now?
or did you or your kids dress them up?
they looked so cute!.

My Letter To the Watchtower
by AiAi inthis is an exact copy of my letter to the watchtower.
it never recieved a reply (i did not include 'attn writing committee' in the address however).
please keep in mind that when i wrote this i had just started my intensive research into their beliefs/history, and despite my agressive tone i really did expect a satisfactory answer.

Brilliant letter which IMHO deserves a response but how can they truthfully answer it without admitting they were wrong. It would be like shooting themselves in the foot. They can never admit to being wrong even once because it would take away all their authority and power and all subsequent dates and doctrines could then be questioned by the rank and file. They have made themselves the Almighty because like Him, no-one is allowed to question their authority, if you do you will be kicked out and shunned. They are now God on earth. Salvation is through them and them alone.
